What are Zombie Properties?
Don't worry - they can't eat you but they can hurt your neighborhood and affect your property value.
Zombie properties are one to four-family residential houses where the bank or mortgage lender has started the foreclosure process and the owner has abandoned the property before the foreclosure is finalized. Zombies can erode your neighborhood and negatively affect your property value.
Steps the Mohawk Valley is taking
The Greater Mohawk Valley's Zombie Property Initiative focuses on four main objectives: ​​

INVENTORY
Develop a vacant and abandoned property database with software capable of tracking data and sharing information internally, and with the public.

ANALYZE
Analyze the vacant and abandoned property data to assess the impacts of zombie properties in the Mohawk Valley.

ORGANIZE
Establish a Regional Housing Committee to design and implement short and long-term strategies to address vacant properties, identify housing priorities and initiate new housing policy.

PREVENT
Connect with at-risk homeowners to provide foreclosure prevention resources.
